Barrett-Jackson Auctions in Full Swing!
Jan 17, 2012 - 10:34 AM - by pgillette
With the Barrett-Jackson auctions in full swing, the Ford Mustang has been the center of most discussion with Ford and Shelby American unveiling several new models in Scottsdale. Of these new models, the 50th Anniversary Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Mustang Boss 302, and California Special GT/CS have been the most anticipated and publicized. Not only has Ford upped the performance in these models, several new colors have been released bringing even more attention to one of America’s favorite sports cars.

Even if you don’t have the cash to make a purchase, the Barrett-Jackson Auctions are still worth visiting for the average Joe. Several events are being held to entertain guests that are just attending for the experience. Behind Shelby American’s display, the Ford Ride and Drive event is set-up where guests can take virtually any new Ford for a spin on the high performance gymkhana track.

On the dyno stage is the simulated drag racing competition with two new 2013 Mustang GT Convertibles. Spectators are picked at random from the audience and put head to head on stage for a drag race in the new Mustangs.

If you get the chance to visit Scottsdale, prepare to spend an hour or more at both the Ford and Shelby American booths. If not, be sure to plan your trip to Palm Beach, FL in April... [Read More]

Shelby American Announces 50th Anniversary Edition Cars
Jan 11, 2012 - 9:09 PM - by pgillette
Nearly 50 years ago, Carroll Shelby founded Shelby American, one of the most well-known secondary car manufacturers in America. The company and its products would go on to become an iconic piece of automotive history through the company’s keen attention to detail, exclusive availability, and unparalleled performance. “Few thought that Shelby American would make it in the car business for 50 years,” said Carroll Shelby. “We built the first Cobra in a rented garage and then GT350’s in an old hanger. But our company is still here, manufacturing the best cars that I’ve ever made. The next 50 years will be even better for Shelby American.”

Just this past week, Shelby American announced that it would be producing a limited number of Anniversary Edition cars in honor of the company’s 50th anniversary. The company is unleashing new lines available in Shelby GTS, GT350 and Super Snake Mustang packages. Only 50 white and 50 black of each post title Shelby model will be manufactured, making it an instant collector’s item.

“Our golden anniversary is a remarkable milestone worthy of this limited edition line of Shelby vehicles,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “On the heels of the unprecedented sellout of our 50th Anniversary Edition Cobra 289, we expect demand for these new Shelby’s to be... [Read More]

Impressive: Mustangs Across America 45th Anniversary cruise reaches 400 entries
Jan 05, 2009 - 2:23 PM - by David Burkart
The task of rallying across the country, from Nevada to Alabama, is not slight. But then, neither is sustaining an automotive legacy for over four decades. So, it’s no surprise that the event officially celebrating that milestone has already pre-registered over 400 participants.

The approach of the Mustangs Across America 45th Anniversary Drive in April has been exciting the global network of Ford Mustang enthusiasts, so much, it seems, that the event organizers have decided to cap the number of registrations at 500.

“This year’s event will be historic if not record-setting on a national level,” says event coordinator Sam Haymart. “We are in talks with the Guinness Records organization to see if this will qualify to set an official record.”

With participants from nearly every state and over a dozen foreign countries, this year’s run The dates for the Mustangs Across America 45th

Mustangs to be featured at Barrett-Jackson
Dec 31, 2008 - 3:22 PM - by Jon Igielnik
The Barrett-Jackson auctions are known as "The World's Greatest Collector Car Events" and the 2009 auction is coming soon, and it surely will not disappoint. January 11-18 collectors, celebrities, Joe six-packs and everyone in between will convene in Scottsdale, Arizona for one of the largest car auctions in the world.

This year's auction will surely be as grand as ever, but the economic downturn has made its effect. Ford Mustangs are always out in force at the Barrett-Jackson auction, but this year they are down in numbers. Last year's auction had nearly 100 Mustangs up for bidding, but this year the lists have them down to around 55.

Highlights for Mustang enthusiasts will be twofold this year. First, Ford will be selling the very first 2010 Mustang GT at auction in an effort to help promote their newly refreshed pony car's launch. Second, Ford along with long time collaborator Carroll Shelby will come together once again to auction off the first 2010 Shelby GT500.

Other worthwhile Stangs up for bidding will include Jack Roush’s personal prototype “BlackJack” Mustang coupe, a 2008 Mustang GT hat was featured on Spike TV’s “Powerblock”, a Shelby GT Barrett-Jackson edition convertible, along with the usual fare of 60’s GT500’s &... [Read More]

Bold Moves: 2008 FR500CJ Mustang rolls off assembly line, onto track
Dec 29, 2008 - 1:06 PM - by David Burkart
It’s been some 40 years in the making, but the Cobra Jet Mustang has officially returned. The first 2008 FR500CJ Mustang rolled off the assembly line a couple weeks ago in Livonia.

Its owner, Hajek Motorsports owner Brett Hajek, is already prepping Ford’s first factory produced dragster for the track. He’ll be entering number one along with three other FR500CJs in the 2009 Pomona, California Winternationals in February.

“The Cobra Jet is one of the transformational vehicles for Ford Racing,” said director of Ford Racing Technology Brian Wolfe when the new Cobra Jet was unveiled at SEMA 2008. “The 2008 CJ will get us more involved with the sportsmen racers in drag racing. At this point there are a lot of little guys who are running Fords from the 60s, 70s and even a few from the 80s, but those cars aren’t necessarily relevant to what we are producing today.”

If the model number sounds familiar, that's because this Cobra Jet is... [Read More]

Tim Howard's 1967 Shelby GT350 Mustang
Jan 19, 2012 - 7:25 AM - by pgillette

From the day it shipped out, Tim Howard’s Shelby was destined to have a vibrant story that future owners would restate for years. Its first journey from Shelby Automotive in Los Angeles to a dealership in Trenton, Indiana was short-lived when the delivery train derailed, damaging the vehicle’s right front quadrant. After a settlement was reached with Shelby Automotive, Southern Pacific Railroad became the owner of the vehicle and auctioned it off in Los Angeles.

A Ford dealer in Glendale, California purchased her and restored all of the damaged parts with new components. The original owner then purchased the car and... [Read More]

Rick Bombard's 1971 Grabber Green Mach 1 Ford Mustang
Jan 19, 2012 - 7:18 AM - by pgillette
[

Rick Bombard’s classic has been around the block. Several times. But you wouldn’t know it.

He purchased his 1971 Mach 1 Mustang at Summer Carlisle in 1994, and all 14 years since, its eccentric Grabber Green coat has continued to stick out on the road more than most new sports cars.

Beneath the hood sits an M-code 351C 4V Cleveland and a C6 automatic. Unfortunately, his 3.25 trac-loc is long gone and has since been replaced with a “cheesy” 2.79 open rear that he claims makes for “embarrassing peg leg burnouts.”

Peg leg burnouts or not, this classic is loaded with factory Ram-air setup, new... [Read More]

Monica Velarde's 2005 Mustang
Jan 19, 2012 - 7:09 AM - by pgillette

For Monica Velarde, there are two paths in motherhood: the typical “soccer mom” path and the “I love horsepower” path. Hers has been the latter of the two, and it’s been a bittersweet run. Why? Because car seats are a “killer” to get out of Mustangs, and she would never settle for a minivan.

The only option when she had her daughter, Veronica, was a ’97 Thunderbird LX that churned out 205 horsepower. She would have loved to grab a Mustang, but the Thunderbird was the largest option with a V8 under the hood. “It’s funny how most people with a family go ‘bigger’ with SUVs while my interpretation of ‘bigger’ was a T-Bird,”...
